Continuing with my moth series today I present this huge moth. It was a chance meeting as I jumped about following a butterfly in a thick bush. I was stunned at its size as it flew from one leaf to another. Shot taken hand-held in reasonably good lighting (shady). Hope everyone like this one too.

Convolvulus Hawk-moth, Agrius convolvuli (Linnaeus, 1758)

Hello Sumon,
I see we are neighbours today!
Another fine Hawk-moth image, this time the Convolvulus, species that is as rare in Sweden as the Death's Head.
This is a fine specimen taken with great sharpness from a pleasing POV and I like the composition on the hanging leaf.
TFS this beauty,
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Sumon,
the central composition works for me in this one, really like the symmetry you have created here. Excellent details and natural colour - well done!

Hi friend Sumon,
What a huge moth and superb capture with excellent details, nice DOF and POV! Perfect! Great Composition!
TFS.
Cheers,

Wonderful composition and colours.

Purty doggone good hand held Sumon. these have a stealth feeling to them, perhaps not in cloak but in design...of the Creator of course... but they do have a certain aircraft worthy quality about them. Notes are done so very well indeed! Very good show!

A beautiful macro-capture of a majestic moth at its prime Sumon, open-shade daylight illumination is best for reproducing the pattern and colouration characteristics of such subjects my friend, the form of the green leaf provides a good counterpoint to the form of the moth here, perfect composition indeed!

Hi Sumon,

This moth looks so wonderful on those beautiful leaves. Looks like you arranged the setting for it. Superb details of the moth (and the leaves) and excellent colors. A perfect composition, as always.

Jane

Hi Sumon Da,
Yes I also had an opportunity to capture one during my visit to Chandbali. Shall post later. Very well captured with superb details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Just off to airport so v short - I will be back :)

Hello Sumon,
Once again an excellent image, Sumon.
Extraordinary moth you present us. Well composed; I do like the applied symmetry in this work.

Another fine documentary image. Color and detail are good. The framing with moth and leaf is really cool!

Looks to me like the camera chose to focus on the leaf and not on the back of the moth. That is something I fight all the time with my camera. I always use spot metering to try to sharpen properly on my main subject but sometimes the camera refuses to cooperate and I don't catch it until I get home. But I'm a slave to autofocus so have no choice. :)

However, just a tiny bit of selective sharpening on the moth's back will easily take care of that.

Stunning patterns that are so intricate and detailed!
Very sharp and crystal clear.
Great light too.

Looking very much forward to the next one!

Hi Sumon, this is a great shot of this Hawk Moth. I like the textures you've captured on this one. The detail seen on the moth and the leaf it's on are very good. Colour too is very good. The depth of field has given us great clarity on the moth, and his background, and all presented very well in a great crop with natural looking frame.

Thanks, John

Hello Sumonda,
Superb and lovely shot. I like the lovely green with the contrast moth. Superb Ganesh

Belo inseto muito bem fotografado e técnicas exelente, parabéns por esta imagem.
Nilson

Hi Sumon,
The subdued light has helped to give it a nice even exposure, nice color. I've found moths like this to be difficult with respect to sharpness. Perhaps it's their wings inherent texture or look..
Sounds good anyway ;}
Howard

Bonjour,

Hi Sumon, I guess moths most of the time are chance subjects ...they 're in those places where we usually go looking for aniother subject...atleast that has been my experience. A very fine and details cpature of the "Convolvulus Hawk-moth", I like the silver grey contrast of the moth againt th e green leaf. The details are razor sharp and the macro perfect in eveyr way.
Veru well done.
TFS & Cheers

Hello Sumon.
a very clear and sharp shot of the moth.
The colour is well distinguished from the green BG. Simple shot and nice composition.
The notes are very useful and Im learning alot from you. I also do have some species to post. But the knowledge on butterflies- eg naming and categorising it very scientific and difficult for me.
Thanks for sharing.

Regards,
Foozi

Hi, Sumon!
It is hard to believe that this moth is such large! I my country the moths have maximum wing-spread around 50-60 mm so this one belongs to giants! Very nice photo, excelent sharpness and light, I like it very much!
