Amidst all my work pressure I am visiting TN whenever I can for the sheer joy of watching all the magnificent posts from all over the world. No better way of relaxation that I can think of from the ever demanding mental pressure and degradation. Anyway a lot of pending critiques are to be attended to and I hope to cover ground tonight, hope everyone will bear with me for a few more days. In the meanwhile I cannot resist myself from posting this beautiful butterfly today - a Lemon Pansy. Though this a very common butterfly I had not managed to take a decent shot all this while. My wish gets fulfilled again here and this leaves 5 species which I desparately want to shoot in the future. Shot taken hand-held in clody conditions. Hope everyone like it too.

--------------------------
The Lemon Pansy, Junonia lemonias, is a common nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia. It is found in gardens, fallow land, and open wooded areas.

It is brown with numerous eye-spots as well as black and lemon-yellow spots and lines on the upperside of the wings. The underside is a dull brown, with a number of wavy lines and spots in varying shades of brown and black. There is also an eyespot on the lower side of the forewing. The wet and dry season forms differ considerably in coloration and even shape. In the wet season form the markings are distinct and vivid and the wing shape is a little more rounded.

In the dry season form the markings are obscure and pale especially on the underside and the wing margin is more angular and jagged. This helps it camouflage in the dried leaf-litter.

The Lemon pansy is a very active butterfly and can be seen basking with its wings open facing the sun. It sits very low to the ground and can be approached easily. It feeds with its wings half open. It is a fairly strong flier and flies close to the ground with rapid wingbeats and often returns to settle back in the same spots.

Scientific classification :
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Nymphalinae
Genus: Junonia
Species: J. lemonias

hello sumon,

excellent work once again,

this time you have captured this so beautiful pansy with open wings in this lovely pose,

technically this shot has all the qualities of A grade photograph, I liked the contrast between the green bg and the colorful insect,

inspite of the cloudy conditions the lighting looks superb to me,

excellent work once again.

tfs & regards
pankaj

btw i was wondering where do you go to find all these beauties or do you have a formula of attracting them like a butterfly magnet.

Hello Sumon,
You seem to be on the Pansy theme at present. This is a superb sharp open-wing capture of the Lemon Pansy nicely perched on a leaf so that the OOF natural greesn BG sets it off well.
Thanks for sharing this delight,
Ivan

Hi Sumon!

You are right, TN is a fine way to destress - looking at pictures, reading notes, flying to almost every country in the world. And if that flight takes you to the magic world of your pictures, then it's something like the dessert, the cherry on the cake...

Kind regards

Markus

Bonjour Sumon
Je ne sais pas lequel des 2 Junonia est le plus spectaculaire.
Bravo pour cette belle prise de qualité
Merci
Laurent

Captada de manera excepcional, parece estar flotando en el aire. La calidad en tus tomas se da por hecha.
Abrazo.

And now for the Lemon Pansy, Sumon.
I stick to my conviction that individually, Gray Pansy stands first among all Pansies.
That, however, does not discount the appeal of this yet another perfect shot of a different Pansy.
Everything is immaculate in this capture too.
Thanks and take care.
Ram

Hi Sumon,

Sumon, this is just too perfect, splendid Mr.Sharp!:)I wonder how do you manage such neat shots despite cloudy conditions.

The DoF is such an excellent one that it gives me a 3D feel.It is almost as if the butterfly is stuck on wall of green.I can feel the velvety softness of the texture of its wings right at the tip of my fingers even as i look into this composition.

The colours are well saturated and the contrasts just fine. Every tiny detail on those wings are visible and the brown against the green BG makes the shot all the more colourful and appealing to the eyes.

Another fantastic capture that shows your talent and creative spirit...Very impressive and very well done, Sumon
