This is dedicated to Matatur (Mehmet). The Shell expert. I am not sure about its ID. But according to my searches it looked like Murex Shell. Hope I am right. Thanks a lot for viewing.

Murex Shells

Family: Muricidae. There are 700 known species in this beautiful family of shells. They are noted for their unique shape and curving spines. The Mollusk is carnivorous and typically feeds on bivalves, shrimp, and sponge among other creatures of similar size. They can be found in sand or mud flats, and on coral reefs. When the frond-like spines are coated with sea moss, the shell may be completely camouflaged amid rocks or on reefs. Interesting Facts: The crimson color of royal purple was created by the Phoenicians by using the Murex brandaris shell. The rare and brilliant color was used by the emperors of Rome. At that time, the dye cost the equivalent of $10,000 a pound.

Nick..

Well, thank you very much indeed for this rare pleasure my dear friend, however I am far removed from being a shell (or mollusc) expert, but I do love those beautiful creations of nature and this one is no exception! The positive ID? well I'm afraid we have to ask that to a gastropod expert, no?
Yours,
Mehmet

If i was a gastropod expert, i am not saying so but if i was, I would think a frontal view would work better. This needs a real expert on the field :). But as a photographer i can say it is one perfect capture of that snail.
