Two centipedes on a moss covered tree trunk, taken inside a bird sanctuary. Locally these are called 'Tamaring centipede', because of the tamarind seed like yellow structures on their body. I don't think they are mating, since centipede mating does not involve copulation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centipede) These are venomous, but not that much dangerous for humans. Hope you like it.
I would be glad if anyone can tell me the id of this centipede. |

Hi Victor
This is a lovely macro of the 2 centipedes. Unfortunately I cannot assist you with the ID. Luckily these are not fast moving critters so the 1/25 second shutter speed worked well to "freeze" any movement (chuckle) and to attain an f/4 aperture that had the desired range of DOF. That ensured an image with good sharp details of the subjects. The colour saturation is also good providing a nice rich result.
This capture you made of the centipedes inside the bird sanctuary makes me think of a visit I once made to the Pretoria Zoo (some 600 km's from my home) where I wanted to photograph some exotic animals I wouldn't normally find in the game reserves, but I ended up shooting butterflies because the animals at one specific enclosure (sable and eland antelopes) all ran away from me .
Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
