[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today, I went for a day trip to Dr. Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary, Kolkata. It is a very lovely place for day outing, bird watching and butterfly watching also. It is a must see place for every Kolkattan and nature lovers. A 17.865 acres of land, full of green. The place is maintained by WBFDC (West Bengal Forest Development Corporation). I found many butterflies there. These beautiful Blue Tiger duo is the first post from them. Many more to come. Please feel free to comment.

The Dark Blue Tiger (Tirumala septentrionis) is a Danaid butterfly found in South and Southeast Asia.

Description
Closely resembles Tirumala limniace, Cramer, but is always sufficiently distinct to be easily recognized, even on the wing. From T. limniace it differs on the upperside in the ground-colour being darker and the semihyaline markings narrower, more distinct, and of a bluer tint, In the fore wing, in interspace 1 the two streaks are narrower, never coalescent, the upper one forming an oval detached spot; the short streaks above vein 5 are outwardly never truncate, always acute. In the hind wing the two streaks if the discoidal cell united at base are wide apart at their apices, the lower one never formed into a hook. On the underside this species is generally darker, the apex of the fore wing and the whole of the ground-colour of the hind wing not being of the conspicuous golden brown that they are in Tirumala limniace.

Expanse: 80-115 mm.

Distribution
The Himalayas from Simla to Sikhim, into Assam, Myanmar and Southeast Asia; Orissa ; Southern India., the Western Ghats and Nilgiris; Sri Lanka.

Habits
This species is one of the predominant species (78%) during the migratory season in southern India during which many species migrate. Both males and females appear to migrate in equal numbers.

Hello Atanu,
you present an attractive picture of a beautiful Tirumala species.
You selected a highly suitable point of view as well as depth of field.
A perfectly exposed and sharp picture of the butterflies.
Best wishes, Peter

Namaste Atanu,
this shot is just wonderful.
I love these noble butterflies so much but never saw them in free nature, only in a butterfly house. Excellent shot showing both very sharp and pretty.
Thanks and greetings

Hi, this is an amazing photograph. The colors are vibrant and the butterflies are in great contrast with the background.

good taken simultaneously with the vision of this butterfly in two different views ...

Wow!!!
Loved the composition. The two butterflies facing two separate directions in the fading green backgroubd has given the photograph a different dimension. I missed the show today.

Hello Atanu,
This photo is a real beauty. Sharpness and colours are amazing. Very beautiful contrasting BG. Fantastic POV, DOF and composition.
Regards,
Peter

Hallo Atanu
Striking image. These butterflies could easily have been twins. The shapes of the patterns are interesting to look at, as each one is different from the other. The contrast of the light blue blotches in combination with the black outlines is beautiful. I like the unopened flower buds as well as the soft pink opened flowers. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards
Anna

Now that I have seen your latest picture of a Common Crow, I find this image of two butterflies on the same flowers immensely pleasing, Atanu.
Both the subjects are in sharp focus and the details and colours on them are very good.
It is a pleasure to know that you can find butterflies flying in Kolkata at this time of the year.
Well done and TFS.
Ram
