I was absent on this site for 2 days and it already seems like a month. Mainly work pressure and a little lack of motivation. I know I have missed a lot but I promise to catch up very soon. However after my hawk-moth series I start this Lycaenids or Blues mini series. Today I present this tiny Gram Blue butterfly in the early morning sunlight. Shot taken hand-held. Hope everyone like it.

------------------------
The Gram Blue (Euchrysops cnejus) is a small butterfly found in India that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family.

The male of the Gram Blue is light purple whilst the female is rather heavily black-dusted with the wing bases pale shining blue. The underside is pale buff, with the usual lycaenine markings as spots and striae. The spots in the costal and basal areas of the hindwing are black and very distinct. The black submarginal spots near the tails are edged with metallic green scaling and inwardly crowned with orange. The species also possesses a pair of string-like tails.

The species is common in localised areas where its food plant can be found. The host plant is a creeper-like "pea plant" with three leaves on a node. The plant has yellow flowers and pea-like processes on which the female is often observed laying her eggs. The Gram Blue prefers open areas flying low on grassy waste places.

Scientific classification -
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Superfamily: Papilionoidea
Family: Lycaenidae
Genus: Euchrysops
Species: E. cnejus

Today could be the day of the Blues. There are good numbers of pictures on them. This one is a nice close up.

I was thinking of you as I wrote to Pablo today...yes we would be sorely in need of images if you do not post...yours are ones which I learn from..These kid of pictures are the ones which inspire me to keep on trying for that one notch higher...so don't go too far now! We will hold you to your promise to keep coming back:-)

Hello Sumon,
an admirable and perfect capture of this small Lycaenide. The background is highly appropriate
to show the butterfly in absolutely good contrast.
Furthermore, the picture is beautifully composed.

Hello Sumon
Nice presntation.Well composed image and nice POV .Your image is sharp and the colors are lovely.

Great photo... great note... wonderful detail highlighted by shallow DOF.

It must be a metaphysical India thing, but I have no idea how a butterfly consisting entirely of warm tones can be called "blue". :) ;)

Excellent shot, Dada!
Very nicely chosen POV!

Hi Sumon,

A beautiful butterfly on a tree whose bark is the perfect color. The wing markings are so pretty with wonderful soft colors. Excellent details - even of the antennae. You never fail to have a superb composition.

Jane

Hello Sumon,

I'm not quite sure why it is called a blue when it is definitely not that colour. It actually doesn't matter because the shot is just great ... and it would be great no matter what the creature is called!
The detailed, patterned wings have a lovely irridescence about them and I love the stripes on the antennea and the legs!
The diagonal twig helps to make the composition really good.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Sumon Da,
What a superb capture of this beautiful blue butterfly. The light is excellent here. Superb details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Excellent work Sumon, this is great.
A nicely blurred BG setting the blue off well.
Excellent detail, DOF, POV, color, and use of the ambient light..
Well composed - Well done!

Hello Sumon, this is a beautiful shot of this Gram Blue. The lighting is very good resulting in excellent definition on the butterfly. The colours are excellent with very excellent sharp detail. Depth of field is good in setting the butterfly separate from his background. I liked the angled stick you found him on, but I was thinking I might have turned it by 90 degrees so he would be heading up. It's not a big deal, but I prepared a workshop to examine this other possibility.

Thanks, John

Hi Sumon

Impressed with your H2 as usual. YOu've done a great job here. Stunning sharpness and great compositin on a great OOF background.

Chris

Wow, what a brilliant macro of this tiny Gram Blue, Sumon!
Your hand-held shots are better than the ones people shoot with tripods.
Amazing sharpness, details and colours.
It is going to be my favourite.

Dear Sumon,
Marvellous ..One look at this presentation of the Gram Blue and anyone's blue could just get blown away....it is sheer joy to look at this composition...amazing sharpness and clarity and spot on focus.
The details on those wings have been picked up brilliantly by the sunlight. I like the way the BG seen at the right side shows its environment.
Very well done.
