| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
There was a beautiful garden outside the place where my cousin was getting married. These Mynas were busy preparing their nest. Though very much high up in the tree, they refused to come to this nesting hole unless I was looking elsewhere. These were taken just withing a few seconds before they flew away, spotting me seeing them.
Credits to Smitha for correcting me. These are not Indian Myna's as I noted in my notes ealier, but Jungle Mynas. Thanks a lot Smitha.
Jungle Myna:
The Jungle Myna, Acridotheres fuscus, is a myna, a member of the starling family. This bird is a common resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India and Myanmar east to Indonesia.
This common passerine is typically found in forest and cultivation. The Jungle Myna builds a nest in hole. The normal clutch is 3-6 eggs.
These 23cm long birds have grey plumage, darker on the head and wings. There are large white wing patches obvious in flight, and a white tail tip. The head has a forehead tuft. The bill and strong legs are bright yellow, and there is no bare skin around eye. The sexes are similar, but juveniles are browner.
They are usually found close to water or rice fields. The southern Indian race has a blue iris.

Like most starlings, the Jungle Myna is fairly omnivorous, eating fruit, grain and insects.
In many parts of Asia, they are kept as pets. As a result, escaped birds have formed feral populations in many countries such as Taiwan. |

Hi Kiran,
Great shot. I really liked the way you have captured them with nesting material.Good composition. If i may, i would like to make a suggestion regarding the notes. I think its not indian Myna, but Jungle Myna . Jungle Myna also looks very much like the Indian myna but it lacks the bright yellow skin around the eyes. Please check it out.
Regards, Smitha.
P.S: by the way did you see the wedding or did you miss it ?:)

Hi Kiran.
Very nice subject and perfect vertical composition of the picture. The scene is too difficult for shooting by light condition and colour palette. I think you have done everything very well. I also think that some softness of the image is caused by long exposure time and I don't see any opportunity to improve the situation. Increasing ISO – no, use more large aperture – no. May be powerful flash if the distance is no so long. However, very nice shot and experience. TFS and best wishes.
Alexei.

Beautiful shot of these lovely birds Kiran, the pose of the birds could not have been better whilst nest building, making a great POV. You maybe could have lightened it up a tad. Still makes a lovely compositon.

Hi,
Very nice birds, and catching them in the nest is especially interesting! I had a myna bird long ago, for a pet, that could talk. they look slimmer than the ones in USA.
Good moment you have captured!
This photo have value etologically.
