Yesterday I was travelling from Delhi to Bawal (Our factory is located there). Bawal is 80Kms from Delhi and on the Highway NH8 near Rewari I saw this Cattle Egret landing near the bush. After seeing this I stopped my car and tried to take a shot. Due to hot weather I had closed my windows. When I opened my Window to take a shot, I saw this guy moving ahead slowly. I moved little closer it moved ahead. It was happening for 5-10mts. We kept chasing each other but it was playing hide and seek. After 30mts I saw this guy went inside the bush and I was just cursing my bad luck but surprisingly it came out with a gardern lizard on its mouth and was standing next to my car. I dont know how to react as I was absolved in the scene. But what amazed me is that it could have gone inside the bush but the reason for coming out of the bush is unknown. I had only some seconds to react to capture this moment. I always wanted to take a shot of such scene. I was pretty happy after taking this shot and this is the only one take.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Description
===========
The Cattle Egret is a stocky species, averaging 51 cm long and weighing 200-600 g, with a short thick bill. The non-breeding adult has all-white plumage, a yellow bill, and greyish-yellow legs. When breeding, orange buff plumes develop on the back, breast and crown, and the legs become orange pink. The sexes are similar, but juvenile birds have a black bill.

This bird will give soft kre calls in flight, and a gruff rick-reck on the ground.

The Cattle Egret is often found in dry grassy habitats, unlike most herons which are associated with shallow water. It feeds on insects, especially grasshoppers, and is usually found with cattle and other large animals which disturb small creatures which the egrets then catch. This species will sometimes ride on the backs of these animals.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Ciconiiformes
Family: Ardeidae
Genus: Bubulcus

Hello Ganesh,
Fine capture of a Cattle Egret in breeding plumage with a salamander in its beak. This is pretty sharp and well composed against a pleasing contrasting green BG. I have never seen a Cattle Egret so brightly coloured: maybe the colours are a bit over-saturated.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

The bird looks fierce and triumphant with its prey tucked inside its beak, Ganesan. A timely capture, no doubt.
