[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I was asked by our Engineering Team me to come down to the unit during this week. While asking for the reason, I was told that they will send me a mail. While opening the mail attachment I found this picture. The picture was shot at our production unit, located in Bawal, Haryana. I was told that the unit has plenty of such insect. The unit, knowing my interest in the photography asked me to visit before they disappear.

Locust
======

Locust is the name given to the swarming phase of short-horned grasshoppers of the family Acrididae. The origins and apparent extinction of certain species of locust—some of which reach 6 inches (15 cm) in length—are unclear.[citation needed]

These are species that can breed rapidly under suitable conditions and subsequently become gregarious and migratory. They form bands as nymphs and swarms as adults — both of which can travel great distances, rapidly stripping fields and greatly damaging crops.

Though the female and the male look alike, they can be distinguished by looking at the end of their abdomen. The male has a boat-shaped tip while the female has two serrated valves that can be either apart or kept together. These valves aid in the digging of the hole in which an egg pod is deposited.

Thanks for looking at this picture.

Regards
Ganesan

Hello Narayanan,
a very nice picture of these colourful insects. It's a pity that you cut parts of the body and of the antennae.
Best wishes, Peter

What beautiful colors on these bugs, they look like children's toys, not live creatures ! Super detail, just a shame that you are missing some of the front and back of the locusts. Interesting composition.

TFS, Mish
