Hi Goldy,
I think this one is close to perfection myself. OK maybe it could have a little more space on top and the complete antennas, on the other hand the close up work is excellent.
Sharp and crisp and your focus is right on the Butterfly. DOF is great sharpness throughout the model.
Very nice colors and also a very nice composition.

hello goldy,

your feelings about Mr. Ram Thakur is very correct and lot of other tn members will agree 100 %. I still remember my early days at TN and the encouragement given By Mr Thakur to improve.

Your gallery is beautiful specially the landscape scenes posted by you.

I would like to point our a few things which could improve this picture (its purely the way i look at it)
The Composition : The Antennae is cut, I would have preffered it complete, The space left at the back of the butterfly could have been avoided, Instead the space in front would have looked better.

Adding to the f stop could have resulted in more suitable dof for macro of insect,

The bright patch on the right side could have been cloned out.

However i like the details of the wings and the natural colors,

Looking forward to more macro shots from you soon,

If it weren't for the cut-off antenna this would have been a nearly perfect shot with fine sharpness, POV and composition.
As it is this capture of a female Indian cabbage White is pretty good and a fine tribute to our TN friend Ram.

Hi Goldy again.
I like your skillfully done close-up picture. I see only one tiny minor point. This is cutting of butterfly antenna. However, at whole and all other aspect shot is superb. Excellent sharpness and details of the nice butterfly and leaves, very impressive BG, perfect framing and composition. My best wishes. Well done.

Superb picture for a first macro. Excellent sharpness. Very nice colours. It is a pity you cut the antenna. A little noise in the background which can be remove easily with NeatImage.

Hi Goldy, This is very pretty with the green gold butterfly on the green leaves. Very good sharp details and the long wings are unusual making for a pleasing composition and a nice dedication to Ram. Tfs, hope you have a great weekend.

This is a sharp capture of a beautiful creature. Details are good and so is exposure. I would maybe have let more space up to makes its antennas fit in the whole frame and to equilibrate the picture but it's a details and your shot is still beautiful. Thanks,

First of all, I must thank you for dedicating your first macro image to me. I feel highly honoured and a little embarrassed too; I am still a learner here on TN like many of us and draw inspiration from other members' good work, candid advice and constructive suggestions. In return, I try to do the same with complete sincerity.
Coming to your macro of this butterfly which Ivan has identified for you correctly, I agree with the comprehensive critique Pankaj has written on it. I am sure you would benefit a great deal from his feedback.
The focus on the butterfly's outer wing is spot on and so are the details on it. DOF is pretty good and the colours are very natural.
In a nutshell, you have made an impressive debut in macro photography and I wish you all the best in your future efforts in this genre.

I think you felt like I did when I photographed my first butterfly. I also do not know anything about butterflies and had to ask Loot for help. He is very good with the identification of these creatures and when he does not know he will look until he finds an answer. I am very lucky to have him by my side. For a first, I think this is a very pretty image. The detail of the butterfly is displayed well and the focus is good. It is a pity that the antenna is cut of, but the rest of your butterfly fits perfectly in the frame. Even the fine hairs on the leaf are clearly shown. The green as background highlights the pale yellow colour of the butterfly. Thanks for sharing your lovely dedication to Ramthakur.
