[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I shot this butterfly in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India, in August this year.
My friend Heinz has given me the lead this time and I have satisfied myself that it is a Holly Blue. I had posted a picture of this species earlier too and Krzysztof had already guided me at that time about its ID. Anyway, the note now stands revised as given below:

HOLLY BLUE
Celastrina argiolus

The Holly Blue (Celastrina argiolus), is a butterfly that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family and is native to Eurasia. In India, it is known as the Hill Hedge Blue.
The butterfly was earlier known as Lycaenopsis argiolus.
It is found in Eurasia. In South Asia, it occurs from Chitral in Pakistan to Kumaon in India.
The Lycaenidae are the second-largest family of butterflies, with about 6000 species worldwide, are also known as the gossamer-winged butterflies. They comprise about 40 % of all known butterfly species (Venktesha, 2005). Subfamilies include the blues Polyommatinae, the coppers Lycaeninae, the hairstreaks Theclinae and the harvesters Miletinae. Adults are small, under 5 cm usually, and brightly coloured, sometimes with a metallic gloss. The male's forelegs are reduced in size and lack claws.
Lycaenids feed on various kinds of food including ferns, conifers, fungi, lichens, cycads, homopterans (aphids) and ant larvae.

The focus on the wings is a bit diffused. The shot was taken in a hurry since this butterfly was giving me a tough time.
Thanks.

Hello Ram
Perfect focusing on head,
Great lighting,Excellent.

Regards
Fartash

Another shot of the creature i really love to shoot. In India there are no butterfly parks or any such arrangements and shooting butterflies here is a big fun due to the chasing involved and some times becomes a tough task also.
You have captured so many beautiful butterlies and dragon flies and that shows your love for nature specially flies.
well done.
regards
pankaj

Hi Ram,
Excellent work! You have captured this beautiful butterfly under strong light I believe. You've done a great job.

Bonjour Ram,
Bravo pour cette belle prise de vue,l'éclairage illumine bien le vert du feuillage qui contraste avec l'aile du papillon.

Hi Ram

One a bit more complete than your other posts :) Nice to see a rather fresh one :))
The macro work is excellent here, my friend!
Very nice focus on the butterfly's body. Lovley natural colors and very good exposure (you avoided very nicely what could have been an overexposed body and lower wing:))
Also great POV, framing and compo.

Bravo and TFS

HI ram ,

A very well captured common hedge blue , its quite active in here , the details are great , well the lighting is bit harsh but to which u have tried a real good composition to get greater details.

Thanks for sharing & happy weekend

Pawan

You have some lovely wild life, lovely detail and colour.
Well done.
Cecilia

Hello Ram,
Very well framed subject, I like the way the insect fills the frame!
Well done on the macro part, great details are captured but maybe a tad wider DOF as the wing is not perfectly sharp? No big deal however...
Super definition and great clarity in colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Ram,
Lovely butterfly that must be very active. Good composition and reasonable focus and exposure.I really has not patience to capture them when never stop flying from one place to another.
Best regards, José M.

Nice shot Ram.
Good detail seen at the body, head, and antenae of the insect. Of course, I would like to see a bit more of the wings in..Good exposure/color with an informative note. It gave you a tough time then? Was it supposed to be easy? ;)
Have a great week mf.

Hi Ram

Very nice work. You show this little fella clearly and with nice exposure! TFS.

The colours are very stunning! Great details and composition with good exposure.
Achim

Hello Ram,
What a nice little beauty you have here :) This POV is very good and I like this lightning a lot. Details are great and the fact that there is a little blur on the edge of its wings doesn't bother me at all. This is a good composition with excellent natural BG. Well done and TFS,
Claudine

Hi Ram,
Beautiful butterfly , very well captured. The details on the wings are excellent. BTW did you get a chance to record the blue color when this fellow opens its wings? Believe me it is one of the most beautiful colors; I will post one shortly with wings open.
Exposure and composition are excellent

Hello Ram,
Nice showing of this Lycaenids or Blues family. This one reveals a bit of blue on the upperside wings. POV, exposure and sharpness are great. Well done and seen.

Hello Ram !
In france all the butterflies have disappeared, so it's nice to see them on your pictures, they bring a bit of colors into the rainy days we have here. Excellent details on the body of the butterfly, wonderful colors (I love this green), beautiful composition and POV. Maybe a greater DOF would have been nice, to have the whole wing in focus, but that's not a big problem for me, it's a great picture. Very well done !
Valerie.

Wow great close up of this neat butterfly...awesome detail and great DOF..TFS
Donna :o)
