I found numerous dragonflies of different species frolicking around over a dirty, open drain in the small town of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India one August morning. Some were mating and some were having just good time being alive.
The surroundings were rather smelly, dull and unexciting, so I was able to shoot this fellow patronizing this abandoned cable sticking out by the side of the drain. The murky green BG, of course, is the dirty drain.
Here is a brief note on the species:

BLUE TAILED FOREST HAWK
Orthetrum triangulare triangulare (Selys, 1878)

Sub-Order: ANISOPTERA
Super-Family: LIBELLULOIDEA
Family: LIBELLULIDAE

Orthetrum is a genus of dragonflies in the Libellulidae family. It is a very large genus, with more than 80 species, spread across the Old World.

The Blue Tailed Forest Hawk is found in China, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Hainan, India, Lao, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.
This dragonfly is also a species of the hills. It is found near brooks and marshy hill streams.

Hi Ram,
Dragonflies are strong creatures, as they are able to live in this kind of water. The constrast between dragonfly and cable makes this shot highly expresive and tells us about how humans degrade enviroment. A valuable documents mf,
Best regard,
José M.

Hello Ram, nice shot, with an original BG.

Hola Ram,
Muy buena toma con todo lujo de detalles, con excelente color y nitidez, además de una composición original. Saludos

Well done Ram.
I like the combination of man-made perch and this cool looking dragon. Very nice POV and wing-forward pose. Well composed with great color, detail, and exposure.
Hope you don't mind, I tried a quick tune-up :)
Have a Great Weekend!

Hello Ram, yes I just love your POV on this specimen. Iv never seen this perspective on TN although I am sure Iv missed it. You know search my entire gallery and you will see Iv have never captured a dragonfly. They are always on the move over ponds and vegetation. I miss my macro work this year, to busy chasing rainbows.. Well done.

Interesante la nota sobre las libélulas. La imagen está muy lograda. Un buen punto de vista. Bella definición.
Muchos saludos, JL.

Hello Ram!

Very good macro. I like captured moment with wings in rather strange pose. Interesting POV, very weird twig - for first look I thought it is full of some kind of worms :-)

Hello Ram,
This is a nice capture with a different and original POV. I like those nice details you caught and this good composition. I think that this specie is a real beauty. Well done with interesting notes. Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Ram,
an unusual point of view, an unusual place for a rest, and an unusual setting all over for the precise, careful und colourful presentation of a pretty dragonfly, making this clear and well saturated picture quite unique, and also quite funny. I like this kind of approach, and the clear and instructive words coming with your picture. Thank you!
Best regards,
Peter

Hello Ram,
excellent capture of this lively dragonfly, greatly contrasting against a decaying environment. This I think is a sad reminder of how we people treat our natural heritage :-)

Stavros
