Common Leopard

Friends, this is yet another picture of a Common Leopard I am posting today. I shot it at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh during my recent visit.
Unfortunately, the specimen is a bit worn out.
There was strong temptation to rotate the image ,but then I decided to leave it the way I had shot it originally. Hope you find it acceptable.

Here is a note on the species:

The Common Leopard (Phalantha phalantha) is a beautiful sun-loving butterfly of the Nymphalid or Brush-footed Butterfly family.

Distribution

The butterfly is found in South Asia (including Sri Lanka and Myanmar).

Status

Widely distributed and abundant. To the tops of hills in Sri Lanka and South India and up to 10000 feet in the Himalayas.

Habits

Sun loving and avoids shade. Seen in the plains, gardens and edges of clearings. Has active and sharp flight movements. Visits flowers regularly especially Lantana, Duranta and thistles. Often seen drinking from damp patches. A regular basker with wings spread wide open. It is commonest in dry areas and dry weather and absent from the wetter parts of India during the monsoon.

Thanks for having a look and best wishes.

Hello Ram,
You've managed to shoot this from a very nice angle avoiding showing to much of the damaged wing. What's left is very nice with great focus on the eyes. I like the flower too and the colours are beautiful. Fine soft green background and an excellent composition!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hi Ram

A lovely shot of this butterfly. The detail - especially the eyes - is really good.

James

A long time between posting gives you some time for thought. A well planned and thought out picture. The complimenting colors are a bit better than contrasting, making this one of the better in your long butterfly list.
Bob

Hi Ram
Difficult POV. Good sharpness (i like the sharp antennas) and nice OOF homogenous buckground. I am wondering how it looks like upside down and croped a little bit more from the hidden wing side
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Ram, splendid butterfly and lovely flower with wonderful colors, great focus in the eye, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Ram,
You've nailed the focus on the all important head/eyes, it couldn't be better.
I like the composition and unusual POV, it works well. Add great colors that contrast this pleasing green BG, and you've got yourself a winner :)
Great capture mf.
