INDIAN LEOPARD
Friends, I shot this animal in a zoo at Shimla, India, through a small aperture in the wire-mesh fence around the zoo from a distance of about 3 meters. It was sleeping on the floor of its cage and woke up reluctantly when some boys from the nearby village loitering around in the zoo made some noise at my behest :-).
It is a Himalayan cat basically. However, my note below deals with Indian Leopard in general:
Indian Leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) is a sub-species of leopards that is native to the Indian subcontinent.
Habitat/Range
The Indian leopard is one of the most successful models of big cats in India. The animal thrives throughout the country with habitats ranging from dry deciduous forests, grasslands to coniferous forests, rainforests, and desert regions. It also lives in the neighboring countries of China, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
Breeding
Leopards breed all the year round. Females are sexually receptive at 3-7 week intervals and the period continues for a few days, during which mating is frequent. The female produces the first litter at the age of 2 and a half to 3 years. Normally two cubs are born and are weaned at about 4 months. The cubs remain with their mother, until they are about 18-20 months old.
Threats
Despite being the most widespread cat, the Indian leopard has faced several types of threats. The animal shares its habitat with other predators, which include lions, tigers, bears, wolves, hyenas, and wild dogs. These animals would kill the cubs when given a chance. In certain cases, a full-grown leopard may fall prey to a lion or a tiger. Apart from its natural enemies, the leopard's main threat is people. For years, it has been threatened due to loss of habitat and poaching. In some parts of India, the animal thrives alongside people. There it would go about searching for an easy meal of domestic livestock, thus resulting into man-leopard conflict. This problem, however, is due to growth in leopard's population during recent years. In order to put a check on such conflict situations, the Forest Department sets up traps in the conflict area, or a town. After the animal is captured, it is released into an appropriate habitat far away from humanity.

Hello my dear Friend Ram,
Sorry nowadays I don't find enough time to make critique. A very nice portrait of this dangerous guy. You have to be a brave-man :)
Have you arrived to India? Or are you still in S.Arabia?
Greetings

Hi Ram
Lovely shot - especially given the conditions. Nice colours and good DOF. I posted a shot of a wild Indian Leopard some time ago - don't know if you saw it?

Hi Ram,
I can see how difficult to take this shot through wire mesh. Nevertheless this is a great picture. I like the pose and color clarity of this picture. Very well done and tfs.
JC
This is a very nice close-up and fine composition. POV, details and the textures are wonderful.
best wishes

Hi Ram,
Excellent shot of the Leopard. Assuring to know that it is caged. But such a beautiful looking animal and such grace. The light and POV are superb. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Ram,
nice shot. What a beautiful cat! The colours in his coat are lovely.
What a shame it has to be a zoo to see these beasts. Safer though!
