Pentatomoidea is a superfamily of insects in the Heteroptera suborder of the Hemiptera order, which are commonly referred to as shield bugs or stink bugs. Shield bugs have glands in their thorax between the first and second pair of legs which produce a foul smelling liquid. This liquid is used defensively to deter potential predators and is sometimes released when the bugs are handled carelessly. The distinctive smell comes from aldehydes such as CH3–(CH2)2–CH=CH–CHO, and is chemically similar to pheromones.

The nymphs, similar to adults except smaller and without wings, also have stink glands.

The nymphs and adults have piercing mouthparts which most use to suck sap from plants, although some eat other insects. When they group in large numbers they can become significant pests.

Other species that resemble Pentatomoidea insects are found in the Coreoidea superfamily.

Stinkbugs normally appear during the spring and summer months.

This is gorgeous Ram. The stink bug is so well seen and the red rose provides very nice cushion for the bug.

Well framed with tact sharp focus.
Best regards,
Jusni

Hi Ram!

Fantastic red colour of petals and great light. Bug is sharp and well taken with all these details on body. Fortunatelly it can't stink over internet :-) Very nice work.

Hello Ram
perfect focusing on the bug. Excellent the composition of colors that give a great contrast between the little insect and the rose with fine details and light.
Livio

hello Ram
great composition with very good details
beautiful colours and great sharpness
greeting lou

A beautiful image indeed in fine natural balance Ram, your close up technique requires no improvement at all, still, I do wonder how the rose smells after this visit. In my childhood I loved to eat mulberries from the tree in my grandfathers farm, you never know a stinkbug walked over a mullberry until you taste it, then you know for certain!...
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Ram,
what an excellent sharpness and clarity. The red really serve a great background to this bug. Nicely thought composition in great clarity.
Very well composed. I like the way you exploit the shadow, giving more emphasis to the subject.

belle mise en évidence, bravo!

Hello Ram!
I like pictures with so strong and natural contast like this one. Combination of red colour of the flower and rather dark tones of the bug really "play" here :> Very nice sharpness and DOF.
Additional points for the note, the chemical weapon of these insects is really good know for me, but from time to time it is good to remind such data without "personal contact" with an insect ;>
Greetings from Lodz,
Radomir
