Rhinoceros unicornis.
Common names: Indian Rhinoceros, Great One-horned Rhinoceros.
The Indian Rhinoceros or the Great One-horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) is a large mammal found in Nepal and in Assam, India.
It is confined to the tall grasslands and forests in the foothills of the Himalayas.
The Indian Rhinoceros can run at speeds of up to 55 km/h for short periods of time and is also an excellent swimmer.
It has an excellent sense of hearing and smell but relatively poor eyesight.
More information can be had at, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Rhinoceros.

I was out for a couple of days. On the way back, I managed to steel away some time to spend a night and the following morning in the Dudhwa National Park. This shot was taken from a swinging elephant back, camera hand-held. Elephant is the only means to enter this swampy grass-land.

Hello Nirmal,
Great shot of an Indian Rhino well composed in a natural environment with good sharpness. I like the lighting on the ears.
Well done and TFS!
Best wishes, Ivan

bonjour
je vois que tu as changé de style, les fleurs c'est joli aussi mais cette image est impressionnante malgré que l'on ne le voit pas entierement mais faut avoir eu le courage

eventful shot.just as it happened..
light on ears helps to open up the head area and the surrounding grasses give the impression of being a beast well disguised in the savannah
i had never known about the indian rhino..this is a good informative shot with an excellent note
cheers
geof

Hello Nirmal,
An attractive capture of the rhino, the backlight adds some nice effects!
I like the location as the animal is just coming out of the grass, image is well composed and with fine details!

hello Nirmal,
Amazing and excellent picture of this Rhino in the high grass. I like the way the sun shines on its ears. Must have been great to make this tour on an elephant's back. Would like to do it too!
Thanks a lot
Anne

hi nirmal,
nice shot of this rhino. tfs.

Hello Nirmal,
what a change from all those fragile, gentle flowers, this powerful rhino emerging in the well handled backlight from out of its hide. Exciting story from an adventurous ride on elephant's back. So much more rewarding and ecological than those camera-shooting safaris with cross country cars. Thank you!
My best regards,
Peter

Hi Nirmal,
Très impressionnante ta photo. Vaut mieux ne pas être dans le chemin de cet animal.
