Trichodesma indicum.
Common name: Indian Borage.
Common Hindi name: Chota Kulpha.
Plant: 50cm. Branching, erect annual.
Leaves: 2-8cm long. Stalkless, opposite, lanceolate.
Flower: 1.5cm across. Blue-purple inverted flowers. Lobes pointed.
Distributed throughout India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Leaves and the roots are esteemed as a remedy for snake bites; and also considered diuretic. A cold infusion of the leaves is considered depurative. In the Deccan the plant is used as an emollient poultice. In Chutia Nagpur the root, pounded and made into a paste, is applied to reduce swellings. |
