Pentapetes phoenicea.
Synonyms: Blattaria phoenicea, Brotera phoenicea, Eriorhaphe phoenicea, E. punicea, Pentapetes angustifolia, P. cebuana, P. coccinea
Common names: Midday Flower, Scarlet Mallow, Copper Cups, Florimpia, Noon Flower, Scarlet Pentapetes, Scarlet phoenician.
Common Hindi names: Gul-dupahari, Dupari, Dupahariya.
Plant: Erect, half-woody plant, 0.5-1m in height. Branches long and spreading.
Leaves: Alternate, linear, 6-10cm in length, toothed at the margins, usually having the broad, pointed base, and tapering to a pointed tip.
Flower: Scarlet flowers with 5 large petals are borne singly or in pairs, on short stalks arising from leaf axils. 2.5-3.5cm across, open around noon, and close the following dawn.
Pentapetes is native to a wide region of tropical South Asia from Ceylon and India to northern Australia and the Philippines.
Grows in moist locations, including rice fields, in which it is a weed.

I have completed one year of ever memorable association with my TN friends. During this period, I have learned a lot and have enjoyed tremendous appreciation and encouragement. Thanks a lot to all of you, dear friends.

One can almost say hope there will be a lot more years on TN. You have built an impressive gallery showing members things that they probably would not have otherwise seen.
I like the way you have concentrated the attention on the pollen of this flower.

I missed this celebration on your first year on TN...Congratulations.
I really like your framing here catching amazing light and shadow details..I see from your shooting info that you had a long focal length and f8 to maximise the dof...Possibly if you were to reduce the zoom them you would have picked up the detail in the stamens...If the image is a little smaller then you have still the option to do a slight crop after to maximise the subject....I have to do a small crop on all of my inflight pictures to achieve a tight and sharp subject.
None the Less this is a fantastic Image of a wonderful flower with perfect notes.

You've captured this Scarlet Mallow very well. I find red a very hard colour to get just right. Nicely composed and sharp detail. Great note.
