Crown Flower Seed Pod

I would like to thank you for your kind critiques on my previous post. I could not attend to TN yesterday because I was down with viral fevel.
Today I am feeling a little better.

My theme on Calotropis Gigantea milkweed and the life forms on it began on June 1 when I noticed some insects such as grasshoppers and Seed Bugs living off this poisonous plant found in open shrublands in India and South Asia.
I had posted the picture of a Seed Bug astride the silk-like fibre inside the seed pod of this plant some time back. Today I am posting the picture of a recently opened seed pod.
The picture may not have much appeal as a photograph but it certainly documents the formation of seeds inside the fairly large pod.
You can also see how the insects living off the plant have eaten into the leaves.

Here is a note on Calotropis gigantea borrowed from Wikipedia:

Calotropis gigantea (Crown flower) is a species of Calotropis, native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and China.

It is a large shrub growing to 4 m tall. It has clusters of waxy flowers that are either white or lavender in colour. Each flower consists of five pointed petals and a small, elegant "crown" rising from the centre, which holds the stamens. The plant has oval, light green leaves and milky stem.

The flowers last long, and in Thailand they are used in various floral arrangements. They were also supposed to be popular with the Hawaiian Queen Liliuokalani, who considered them as symbol of royalty and wore them strung into leis. In India, the plant is common in the compounds of temples. The fruit is a follicle and when dry, seed dispersal is by wind. This plant plays host to a variety of insects and butterflies.

I saw something like this flying in the wind yesterday...not the same but something...and I had hoped I could catch it but was tangled in dragonfly s....A good shot Ram and I shall try again today thanks to you! they look so soft inside...and yet the wind dispersal can be problematic in political circles...some call em weeds and some not..

Ram, Nice subject. I had always seen them floating around. Could have been better if you had moved the lens a bit up to avoid the leaf in the front. Also you could have blown a couple of the seeds out and left them floating to complete the story.

So sorry you were ill - I hope you recover rapidly. The seed pod is spectacular with wonderful clarity. It is fascinating to see it opened like this. Beautiful colors, razor sharp details and a beautiful picture and composition.

Exelente imagen lograda aqui. La pequeñas semillas parecen estar listas para volar por efecto del viento y formar un nueva planta. Es sorprendenta la forma en que se apilan en la planta.

Hi Ram,
Wonderful shot of this amazing seed pod with immaculate sharpness and nice colours. These are fairly common in India but you present this one so beautifully here. The bright natural lighting provides perfect illumination. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.
