Friends, I thought enough time has passed between the time I flooded TN with the pictures of Hoverlies and now, so why not post another Hoverfly from my archive?
So here it is that goes by the name Eristalinus aeneus.
Hope you like it.

Following note on Hoverflies is borrowed from Wikipedia:

Flies in the Diptera family Syrphidae are commonly known as hoverflies, flower flies, or Syrphid flies.

As their common names suggest, they are often seen hovering or nectaring at flowers; the adults of many species feed mainly on nectar and pollen, while the larvae (maggots) eat a wide range of foods. In some species, the larvae are saprotrophs, eating decaying plant and animal matter in the soil or in ponds and streams. In other species, the larvae are insectivores and prey on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects.

Aphids alone cause tens of millions of dollars of damage to crops worldwide every year; because of this, aphid-feeding hoverflies are being recognized as important natural enemies of pests, and potential agents for use in biological control. Some adult syrphid flies are important pollinators.

About 6,000 species in 200 genera have been described. Hoverflies are common throughout the world and can be found on every continent except Antarctica.[1] Hoverflies are harmless despite their mimicry of the black and yellow stripes of wasps, which act to ward off predators.

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

A superb macro Ram, my neighbour this time!

The sharpness and detail show this hoverfly, especially the remarkable eyes, to good effect. The composition on the yellow and red flower, combined with the OOF green natural BG make a fine and colourful image.
TFS this beauty,
My best regards to you,
Ivan

Hello Ram,
I remember you posted a Hoverfly some time ago with spots on its eyes! Here it almost looks like pollen that is stuck to eyes and thorax! Excellent capture showing sharp details and fine colours. I like the flower too that is almost embracing it! A lovely composition in beautiful colours!

Stupenda macro, meravigliosi i colori dalle forti tonalità, straordinaria definizione dei dettagli, stupendo BG. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

In a bar/pub one day a hoverfly said to the other...."Why are we here?". The second said, "Because Sir Ram has called us", replied the slow thinker. And then I walked int he door and ordered a pint and asked the bartender what kind of folks he was letting in these days......"We trick them Bob. We make them think they are important and Ram will image them."...AHA I know the secret Ram....you entice them with liquor! Some fine pollen for your legs Mr Insect?
Bob
