[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had clicked this photograph at Dhikala, Corbett National Park. We were told that this deer had picked up the presence of tiger. After staying for minutes the deer decided to cross the road (Thandi Sarak, Cool Road) with caution.

The Sambar responds to potential danger by standing motionless for minutes, a peculiar gait as evident in this photograph, ruff of hair erect around neck, cocked ears, thumping foreleg on the ground with hollow classical thud, long tail is held almost vertically & remain in position till danger is over. The alarm of a bark is known as "pooking" or "belling" by hunters.
