Hello friends
On the World Environment Day I would like to present to you one of the simplest elements from nature.

From the time of Aristotle and even in the time of Wordsworth it was believed that dew was supposed to fall. It was Dr Charles Well of London in his Essay on Dew published in 1818 who discussed the formation of dew. According to him, the cooling necessary to produce dew on exposed surfaces is to be attributed to the radiation from the surfaces to a clear sky. Good radiators, which are at the same time bad conductors of heat, such as blades of grass, lose heat rapidly on a clear night by radiation to the sky and become cooled below the dew-point of the atmosphere.

Favorable conditions for the formation of dew are (1) a good radiating surface, (2) a still atmosphere, (3) a clear sky, (4) thermal insulation of the radiating surface and (5) a warm moist ground or some other provision to produce a supply of moisture in the surface layers of air.

Another scientist Aitken suggest that the the most characteristic of all the phenomena of dew, are to be accounted for, in large measure at least, by the exuding of drops of water from the plant through the pores of the leaves themselves. The formation of dewdrops in such cases is the continuation of the irrigation process of the plant for supplying the leaves with water from the soil. The process is set up in full vigour in the daytime to maintain tolerable thermal conditions at the surface of the leaf in the hot sun, and continued after the sun is gone.

Hello Silpa,
These days World Environment Day is probably more important than any other special days on the calender, more important than our National day which we celebrate tomorrow (when I sing in a male voice choir).
This capture of a spider's web covered in dew is both beautiful and a fine symbol of how important clean water is in our environment.
The sharpness, lighting and composition against the greenery are great.
TFS and may the environment in your part of the world be less affected by the activities of man in the future.

Hello Silia, this is a very good study of dew, and it seems to me you have it on another great phenomenon, the spiders web. This shows up very well here with those large drops and with the darker backdrop of green and black. This is a very good presentation overall.

Wonderful shot of these dew drops on spider webs and a fitting image for the day. So beautiful it looks and it portrays nature at its best.
