Friends,

I was walking casually in our gardern and suddenly found a movement near the grass. I found this dragonfly perhaps just came out to this world. It was cloudy and raining. Firts hesitated to take the camera out but then thought doesnt matter let me click..Hope you all like it. Thanks to all our TN friends for correcting this ID. Ganesh

Some more details about Robberfly
=================================

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Diptera
Suborder: Brachycera
Superfamily: Asiloidea
Family: Asilidae

Robber flies is the common name of flies in the Diptera family Asilidae. The family Asilidae contains about 7,100 described species worldwide. All robber flies have stout, spiny legs, a dense moustache of bristles on the face (mystax), and 3 simple eyes (ocelli) in a characteristic depression between their two large compound eyes. The mystax helps protect the head and face when the fly encounters prey bent on defense. The antennae are short, 3-segmented, sometimes with a bristle-like structure called an arista. The short, strong proboscis is used to stab and inject victims with saliva containing neurotoxic and proteolytic enzymes which paralyze and digest the insides; the fly then sucks the liquefied meal through the proboscis. Many species have long, tapering abdomens, sometimes with a sword-like ovipositor. Others are fat-bodied bumblebee mimics. Adult robber flies attack other flies, beetles, butterflies and moths, various bees, dragon and damselflies, Ichneumon wasps, grasshoppers, and some spiders.

The larvae are often found in decaying organic matter, such as dung heaps and rotting logs. Other species live in the soil. In most species the larvae are omnivorous.

The robber flies are an abundant and diverse family within the order Diptera that are known for their predatory behavior. Asilidae diversity can be attributed to their broad distribution; most species tend to occupy a selective niche. As their common name implies, robber flies have voracious appetites and feed on a vast array of other arthropods, which may help to maintain a healthy balance between insect populations in various habitats (Joern and Rudd 1982, Shurovnekov 1962). Asilidae adults attack wasps, bees, dragonflies, grasshoppers, other flies, and some spiders. Robber flies are particularly abundant in arid and sunny habitats, which are optimal conditions in which to observe their many morphs and behaviors

Hola Narayanan,
Excelente macro de buena composición, con gran nitidez en la que se aprecian muy bien los detalles, iluminación y fondo muy agradables. Saludos
José Ramón

Hello Narayanan,
A great shot, that eye and its colours are brilliantly captured. You DOF is very thin but you have the DOF right where you want it. A lot of fine detail captured on the dragonflies body.
regards
Matt.

Really colourful Robber Fly, Ganesan.
Am I right in assuming that you chose the 'Auto' mode of adjustment on the PS CS2/3?
I may be wrong but that option normally turns colours on the colder side. However, the image is otherwise very beautiful and we have the option to choose whatever looks good to us during editing.
I have seen a Robber Fly only once in the last three years so I feel good when I see a good picture of it like yours.

Hola amigo,
preciosa macro,
detalles y buen foco,
color y agradable pov.
saludos

Gannu, I love the red eyes of the Robber Fly. The colors are lovely. A more parallel point of view coupled with smaller aperture would have made this crisper.

Hi Ganesan.
You managed to meet and picture a very nice specimen of robber fly. Its colouration is amazing as well as the reproduction of all its features. May be DOF is shallow a bit but I see you have used all possibilities. My best regards and TFS. Excellent close-up.
Alexei.
