Hi all,
About a month back i had not even seen a Red-headed Merlin (Falco chicquera). My first encounter was maidanahalli, today i spotted it about 100 kms nearer in Bangalore rural area. Now I believe lady luck has been gracious to me. This was shot along with Satish, Arun, Arjun and Vinay today morning. i was trying for a flight shot and hence the f stop is 6.3 so that i can gain in speed :-)

This is Red-headed Merlin (Falco chicquera) , which is a is a bird of prey in the falcon family. This bird is a widespread resident in India and adjacent regions as well as sub-Saharan Africa. It is sometimes called Turumti locally.

for more info look at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-necked_Falcon

Hope you ppl liked it
Cheers,
Goutham

Hi Goutham
this is a nice co-operative bird. The colors are much better in this tahn, the one we shot in Meidanahalli. Good picture of a rare bird.

Hallo Goutham
Fantastic shot. Really great camera work and a real feast to the eye. Every little detail is just unbelievable. From the fine feathers on the head, right down to the paws clutching to the branch. It is as if this guy was posing specially for your lens. I like the position you have captured this one from the back showing the beautiful back feathers in all its glory. The colours of the feathers are really splendid. I like the greyish background, which compliment the colours of the bird's plumage and brings out the fine detail in the facial area, especially the yellow circled olive shaped eye. Good focus and framing, presented in a delightful manner. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
