Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace exoticus Gmelin) Danaidae family.
Lovely butterfly this is with a wing span of 90-100mm. Its common but most of the common things are always difficult to capture beautifuly. I was in lalbagh to test my new 18-70mm lens and found this just perched here in the morning sunlight. I opened the lens fully to get clear background and the long leaves helped me for composition. I hate to crop my images but here because I could not move much closer to this blue, cropped 10% to zoom in. Here most of them want to see bold images of the subjects, they don't mind edge to edge coverage or sacrificing composition. Can't do that as I would like to use the background and other elements to good use. Its a habit you see.

Nice capture from this butterfly with a good dof and pov.
A pity that little piece of grass for the wings of the butterfly.

Hi Nagaraj,

A beautiful picture of this beautiful butterfly. You captured it in a nice position on the leaves. Wonderful details of the entire Blue Tiger - the wing markings are beautiful. Lovely shades of brown, white and the pretty blue. A very nice composition.

Nice back ground and comp too, well you have your style of photograhing macro, its unique and good. TFS.

you are right about not wanting to sacrifice compo....a large specimen in the frame is all right but the compo must look right. The pic must have overall appeal.
This pic does that and i kind of like the way the grass is placed.
Just wish there was sharpness at the tip of the wing.

Hi Nagraj,
A nice capture of this Blue Tiger. Very good POV and nice composition. Very good details but I think it would have been better on the wings. The blurred grass leaf is a bit distracting but it is not a problem as everything always is not in our hands especially nature. Overall a very good capture. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Splendid shot of this beautiful Blue Tiger in a great pose. Very impressive sharpness and lovely colours and you have handled the lighting and exposure superbly. The OOF BG illustrates the habitat well. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.
