[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot was taken at KANDACHIRA, on the
shores of the ASHTAMUDI LAKE, Kollam,
Kerala State.
It's musical watching these lovely birds
tune to the nature here. I haven't a
detailed study of these birds. My friend
told me that these are egrets and cormorants.

EGRET:
An egret is any of several herons,
most of which are white or buff, and
several of which develop fine plumes
during the breeding season. Many egrets
are members of the genera Egretta or
Ardea which contain other species named
as herons rather than egrets.
The distinction between a heron and an
egret is rather vague, and depends more
on appearance than biology.

CORMORANT:
The bird family Phalacrocoracidae is today
represented by some 40 species of cormorants
and shags. Several different classifications
of the family have been proposed recently,
and the number of genera is disputed.

What a wonderful shot. I think I casught the big 8 hour ferry there? I went through back waters all over kerala, my first trip there.... I took a bus to small towns and rode in canoes, small boats, a kerala style boat,a dn a ferry!
