I captured this shot from a small flower pot kept in our office premises . While walkin leisurely with my camera, I happened to see the mantis slowly moving towards the tip of the leaf blade on which it was sitting. Out of curiosity, I looked towards the tip of the leaf, enough to see a small beetle. Then I knew, it was the time to start my cam and wait :P . I set it to all manual, macro mode, and set the shutter speed to 400, so that I can catch the moment , of the mantis catchin the beetle. But alas!, even I could point my cam to the mantis, it captured the bug, all of a sudden and I missed the intented shot :(. Then I pointed the cam to the head of the mantis, from above, and took the shots. Luckily I got this shot where the mantis is shearing the beetle with its mouth. Surprisingly, even while being eaten alive, the beetle didnt move or writhe at all!! , It appeared to me as if its dead the moment mantis caught it ( not sure, though :D ).

The original image is cropped, brightened ,and sharpened using GIMP. Its shot on a bright sunny day, with apereture set to 3.2, shuttter (re)set to 320, and ISO 100.No Flash fired

this picture have potential but now it doesn't look to good. you should thy shapening only the subject and use noise reduction and softening on background. you should also try a small resolution like 500x500

Hi however you are,
highly interesting, unusual and also successful portrait of this Mantis. The fine light makes for an eerie mood. That all is not so sharp has to do with the limited light, but you got around that quite well by focussing on the lunch. I like the picture a lot. Little neurotoxins in evidence though.
Best regards
Dietrich
