Hello friends,
I had posted a landscape from my visit to Munnar shooting a few endemic birds of Western Ghats. I was lucky to shoot this very elusive bird that rarely comes out to the open and thought will share it with you all. Its habitat is shrinking at a fast pace and if action is not taken we may loose this bird for ever :(
Thank you to all in advance.

The Broad-Tailed Grassbird (Schoenicola platyurus) is a species of Old World warbler in the Sylviidae family. It is found only in India, restricted to montane grasslands, principally in the Western Ghats and Nilgiri hills of southern India. Occurring largely in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu (BirdLife International, 2001).

The uniform brown upperparts, broad and long tail of the bird is distinctive. The species has a buff supercilium and the tail has thin dark bars on the brown. The call of the male during breeding is a lark like and repeated trill that is accompanied by a fluttering flight. Other calls include a chack and a metalic note.

This species is a bird of dense tall wet montane grasslands, bracken and reed fringes on steep hillsides and tops, including stretches of Andropogon grass and dwarf palm (Phoenix humilis), at least in the breeding season. Outside this time there is some indication that altitudinal movement occurs (BirdLife International, 2001). All along its range in the Western Ghats and the Nilgiris, this species has a small, severely fragmented range and population, as a result of clearance and modification of grasslands. It has therefore been considered as Vulnerable (BirdLife International, 2001).

I liked the pose and good details u got .TFS!

I am thrilled to go back into your previous posts and I am enjoying looking at this picture of a bird I have seen for the first time, Anil.
your infrequently posted images are a treat to the eyes and this one tops them all for its clarity, sharpness and naturalness of colours. The grey BG supports the aesthetic aspect of this image immensely.
Well done and TFS.
