Hello all,
First of all alet me take this oportunity to thank you all for the valuable comments on my previous posts. Today I am posting one of the images made during my visit to Munnar last month. Nikon D3 with its amazing low light shooting ability made this image a reality and here I am happy to share it with you all.

Nilgiri Wood pigeon (Columba elphinstonii) is a bird endemic to moist deciduous forests and sholas of the Western Ghats in southwestern India. They are identified in the field by the checkerboard pattern on their napes.

This pigeon species qualifies as vulnerable owing to its small, declining population, restricted range and widespread destruction of its forest habitat. They are very difficult to spot, no loud calls and hardly comes out in the open. We were lucky to spot this one sitting on a tree in a vally by the road and we could shoot from top to get such a view.

Thanking you all in advance.
Regards
Anil

Hello Anil,
This is a splendid capture of this beautiful Pigeon with a lovely sheen to its plumage. I like its pose on the mossy branch and the light is very beautiful. Excellent sharpness and well composed. I expect this is a first on TN?
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Anil,
Yes, this image, the wood pigeon and the D3 are amazingly wonderful. I am happy to see this image that you made and at iso 1600, that D3 is really a great tool to have.
Ok, the overall natural habitat of w.pigeon is great, very good ambiance you got here. lovely image. congrats.
I did a workshop just to improve a bit on few things, like the checkerboard pattern by correcting the blues, the shadow/highlight details and the background too. which I hope you don't mind. have not seen this beauty and hope the altered colors are at least near to true as only you have seen this so close. tfs.

Hello Anil,
That's a very beautiful and artistic shot, well composed and with an extraordinary fine background. The pose of the Columba is great, the head turned just what is needed for a good picture. Our friend Nagraj made a great WS which eliminates minor imperfections. Bravo
Best regards
Anne

Very good perspective, Anil.
From it, the entire plumage of the bird and its head are in sharp focus. I also find its moss-covered perch quite interesting.
We feel privileged to look at this threatened species of pigeons.
Thanks for sharing it and all the best.

Hello Anil,
What a superb capture at ISO 1600! The lack of noise and sharpness would suggest a much lower ISO.
The capture of the Niligir Woodpigeon itself is great, a fine turned-head pose taken from a great POV and set in a wonderful composition on the lichen-covered branch against a suitable OOF natural BG.
TFS this rare gem,
Kind regards,
Ivan

Anil,

Really good catch. Looks marvelous. I am also amazed at the EXIF info. ISO 1600, 1000mm focal length (? did you use a converted over your 600mm?) 1/100 shutter ! I can understand about your comment regarding D3. Very nice addition to your collection.
