Hello friends,
First of all let me thank you all for the comments on my previous posts. Last Sunday I had gone to Thattekkad Bird sanctuary as substitute for Smitha :). This pic is one half the result of spending more than an hour in a hide along with five mosquitos ( killed 3 of them but was bitten many times)

Regarding this bird it is one of the most shy birds, all you will see is the tail as they vanish into the thick bushes. This is a female, the male is red.. I shall post the picture of male later.

Some wiki info

The Red Spurfowl, Galloperdix spadicea, is a member of the pheasant family which is endemic to India.

It is a bird of dry forests and cultivation, which is a quite secretive bird, and despite its size is difficult to see as it slips through the undergrowth. Often the first indication of its presence is its distinctive call.

This spurfowl is one of three species of bird in the genus Galloperdix. It is a ground nesting bird, which lays 3-5 eggs in a scrape.

It is a plump, 36 cm long bird. Both sexes have a red facial skin patch and red legs.

The adult male has a grey head and neck, with most of the rest of the plumage rufous in colour with white scaling. The female has a grey head, and brown upperparts mottled with black. The underparts are rufous with dark barring. The male of the distinctive Kerala race, G. s. stewarti has all-chestnut plumage, including the head feathers.

Like most of the pheasant family, Red Spurfowl is a terrestrial species. It scratches vigorously amongst the leaf litter of the forest floor for various seeds, fallen fruit and insects

Thanking you all in advance.
Regards
Ani

hi anil,
i appreciate your patience and determination to get this one elusive spurfowl's image. one can make out how much this bird is alret by looking at its face and the raise of hairs on the crest. waiting to see the male spurfowls image. your comments are helpful to know about this one.
the lighting had not helped here much, the tail feathers and breast feathers are in the shadow, i did workshop just open those shadows to see the feather pattern and colors. hope you don't mind. tfs.

Hello Anil,
Very fine capture of this interesting female Red Spurfowl rarely seen here. I like the pose you've captured her in and details are very sharp. I wonder how Smitha deals with the mosquitos! :-)
TFS and best wishes also to Smitha, Ulla

Hello Anil, Nice note and take care of these mosquitoes. You are a real warrier to kill them. Nice shot under the circumstances. Well done. Very nice design on the feathers.

Hi Anil,
I am totally unfamiliar with this bird. Usually the males are more beautiful in nature (except humans :o)- but this one is an exception, female is more good looking :o) It worths to wait and all those bites... Liked your POV a lot. TFS
Best wishes,
Selen
