Hello Friends,

Shot on the last day of my vacation….through my bedroom window…while packing my bags….so do forgive the slight noise in the BG, had to crop and reduce the gamma levels a bit… Hope you like this little baby robin.

Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis)

Main features: Large (20-23cm); bill black; legs grey.

Male: Black head, breast and upperparts; underparts white; tail black with white outer feathers; bold white wingbars.

Female: Back upperparts and breast replaced by dull dark grey.

Juvenile: As in the adult but with mottled brown breast

The Calls of Oriental Magpie Robin - are known to be highly varied;complex songs used for territory establishment and mate acquisition. Vocalizations uttered in a single articulation for the purpose of an immediate requirement, viz. food, social contact, threat, alarm, begging, etc. are known as calls.

Birds normally use a variety of vocal signals while communicating and these signals play an important role in their social life .Information in a call usually relates to the immediate circumstances of the caller.

This species has been found to use mainly six types of calls explained below. In addition, members of this species have been observed to use escape call, anger call, etc. occasionally.

Territorial calls rendered as swee . . . swee . . . .
Juvenile calls rendered assweerr . . . sweerr . . . .
Emergence and roosting calls are shrill (harsh), monosyllabic,
Threat calls phonetically described as charr . . . charr . . . Submissive calls rendered as cheo . . . chee . . . chee . . . chee . . . .
Distress calls as tseerr . . . . tseerr . . . ., with a wide range of frequencies

Moringa oleifera commonly referred to simply as Moringa, is the most widely cultivated variety of the genus Moringa. It is of the family Moringaceae. It is an exceptionally nutritious vegetable tree with a variety of potential uses. I got to eat a lot of the leaves this time.Infact the slender leaf stems are taken a day before and the next day the leaves come off pretty quickly off the stems.
The tree itself is rather slender with drooping branches that grows to approximately 10 m in height; however, it normally is cut back annually to one meter or less, and allowed to regrow, so that pods and leaves remain within arms reach.
The Moringa tree grows mainly in semi-arid tropical and subtropical areas. While it grows best in dry sandy soil, it tolerates poor soil, including coastal areas. It is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree and is widely cultivated in Africa, Central and South America, Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Malaysia and the Philippines. Considered one of the world’s most useful trees, as almost every part of the Moringa tree’s leaves and its immature green pods called as “drumsticks” are used for food in India. It’s values especially for its medicinal properties.
The immature green pods, called “drumsticks” are probably the most valued and widely used part of the tree and are commonly consumed in India, and are generally prepared in a similar fashion to green beans and have a slight asparagus taste. The leaves are highly nutritious, being a significant source of beta-carotene, Vitamin C, protein, iron and potassium...These are given to expectant mothers and also feeding mothers to enhance milk formation. The leaves are cooked and used like spinach. In addition to being used fresh as a substitute for spinach, its leaves are commonly dried and crushed into a powder, and used in soups and sauces. The leaves are full of medicinal properties. The tree is a good source for calcium and phosphorus. In Siddha system of medicine, the drumstick seeds are used as a sexual virility drug for treating erectile dysfunction in men and also in women for increasing the sexual activity and prolonging the sexual activity.

I love the tilt of the head - adorable!
Great close-up and wonderful detail. I love it when we can see the shine in their eyes.

The name Oriental Magpie Robin suggests it is a bird quite different from Robins of Europe and North America, the pictures of which species we see quite frequently on TN, Iris.
A very good shot with fine details and colours.
Well done and TFS.

Greet Iris!
Presents beautifully bird on bright it grows green. Bright eye, clear feathers and different details.

Iris,
We had a tall tree behind our home in Mapuca, pronounced
Mapusa, in Goa, India. This species nested there. The males have an unusually lovely song. The cobra tried in vain to scale up that tree to get the eggs and or babies.
The hawks in the vicinity used to grab the scalling snakes. Tragic; but, that's nature. Survival of the fittest.
However, re: your subject.
Outstanding imaging. Your work is getting better & better, like Johnny Walker ... with age I suppose. Said without prejudice.
In your case it has nothing to do with aging but EXPERIANCE.
Congratulations and warm & friendly regards,
Mario.

Hi Irishues, great shot of this Robin. I especially like the way he has posed for you for this shot, with a little bit of attitude. The details are good, colour is good, with excellent depth of field and composition, though the bird itself may be just a bit dark.

Hi Iris

Lovely shot with great composition and colours. The eye is really nice and the detail very good.

bonjour iris
le BG est peu etre un peu trop detaillé mais l'oiseau et net,ce qui n'a pas du etre facile car il semble etre dans un endroit ou il n'y avait pas beaucoup de lumiere.
bien vu.
