Hello Friends,
today I present a female Lynx Spider on the Tridax flower(also called as Coat Button). They spin a ‘snare’ on the flower top to catch small insects, come to feed on the nectar. I’ll present such a capture in an another post.

Family: Oxyopidae, Lynx Spiders

Description :.These spiders can be found on grass and low herbage. They do not build web nor retreat but make egg sac on leaves. Apart from making egg sac, they use silk as a dragline when pouncing on prey. They move actively in day time hunting small insects. They have a long body and long thin legs. Legs are covered with long spines. They are colourful with green-yellow, silver and brown bands along their bodies. They hunt in the ways like a cat, i.e., slowly approach the prey and suddenly jump to it. So the spiders have their name Lynx. Although their eyesight is not as good as that of the jumping spiders they can see their prey from a distance of up to 10 centimeters. They have two large front eyes besides a smaller pair, two on the side of their head and two large ones looking above and backward giving them an almost 360 degree view .The spiders are active during day-time, preferable in the sunshine, running and jumping over leaves and grasses.

Food: Small insects.

Life Cycle : Female spins a silken egg sac which is attached to plants, then rests on top of it. As soon as spiderlings hatch, they disperse, catching whatever tiny insects they can.

Habitat : Fields and woods on tall grasses and flower heads.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Vral,
good Bg and lighting. compo is also fine. If the spider had a prey, would have been great. may be next time?

Going back to the missed one, KV.
It is an impressive capture of the Lynx Spider sticking up side down on a flower bud.
The colors and details are perfect and the plain BG works very well in highlighting the subject.
Thanks and take care.
Ram
