Pea Blue
Scientific Name : Lampides boeticus
Wingspan : 24 -36 mm
This species can be identified by light to dark reddish lines on the white underside of its wings. There is a distinct white band within the outer margin of the hind wing where these lines are absent. On the upperside, the male is violet blue and female is brown with blue scaling at the bases of its wings. The hind wing is slightly long, white tipped tail.
The pea blue is seen in grasslands, scrub and forests where species of peas, beans and their similar species of plants grow. It is widely distributed species in Tropical Asia and Africa and Europe. In Europe it is known as Long Tailed Blue. |
