Hello Friends,

Here is a Blue Pansy’s under wing posture. Though the upper side wing pattern and colors are a visual treat, I present this for the proximity sake. Captured this single shot unexpectedly, when I was busy chasing another Swift.

The Blue Pansy (Junonia orithya) is a Nymphalid butterfly of South Asia which occurs in open areas, often sitting on bare ground. This species has a stiff flap and glide style of flight and maintains a territory driving away other butterflies that may enter it.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Nymphalinae
Genus: Junonia
Species: J. orithya

Larva:"Head and body of a very dark shining black shading into brown......head on a short neck, latter of an orange colour for a short distance; caudal extremity also tipped with orange. Body covered with perpendicular spines armed with strong radial hairs.....Head bifurcated, reddish spot in centre of face, a small spinous process in the angle of each eye."(Forsayeth in de Niceville)

Pupa: "suspended by tail, naked; wing-covers of a muddy yellow ; rest of body of a purplish colour variegated by lines of a dull creamy white. Slight projections of an angular nature along abdomen." (Idem.)

Beautiful capture of a Blue Pansy showing its nether wing, KV.
Since I shot this butterfly recently, I am much impressed with the quality of this shot.
It is a crisp and well composed picture in which the subject stands out well against the neutral but very apt BG.
Well done and TFS.

Hello KV,
A fine closed-wing port of the Blue Pansy butterfly. The sharpness against a neutral BG shows it well from a fine POV and the composition on the yellow flower is pleasing.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Ivan
