This pic is dedicated to my sisters...of course raksha bandhan is here....
Asiatic elephants (Elephas maximus) are the most gentle and majestic creatures according to me...
According to IUCN this is an endangered species, mainly hunted for its tusks, heads and legs even its hair is used for charms and protection against evil (i dont understand which evil do they want to ward off by killing such beautiful animals).
Location: Asia also has a cousin in Africa
Habitat: Varied, majority to thick forests.
Diet: Shrubs, leaves, foillage...
Vital stats: grows up to 12 feet and weighs around a whoophing 5000 kgs!!!
Nature: Majority gentle, can get agressive if alone (male when in must) and when claves are around.
Use: To add to the beauty of the forests, but also used in timber yards, forest department joy rides, and used in temples to carry the deity.
Thanks to wikipedia for the knowledge.
thanks for looking..

Oh, they are majestic creatures Vinay.
How lovely to see this family together, and that little baby calf is so cute. I like how they are standing around and also protecting the little fellow,

Hi Vinay,
Nice family picture, aptly dedicated to your sisters :)TFS.
Hi vinay,
good family pictur. looking at your sisters' picture, i really wonder how YOU look like.?
nice formation of these pachyderms.
Ha ha ha ha,
I've sent this link to Seema! lets see what will be the response :-). This is a beautiful family pic of gentle giants ( I cant say the same about sissys :-) though). In spite of the dark/black colors of the body , you have managed to get good details, which speaks about good exposure.
I love the way calf is being protected by the sissys :-)
