[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took a late afternoon stroll along the beach with my telescope and Coolpix. There were still a lot of tourists about, some bathing, others sitting on the sand to enjoy the beginning of the cooler part of the day.
I noticed what looked like a large flock of waders, not as one might expect, following the ebb and flow of the water to look for food.
They were instead well up on the beach where the sand was not flattened out by the sea and they seemed to be using the small hollows of the sand to hide amongst in order to spend the night there.
I was able to approach this flock of about 200 to within 30 meters without disturbing them and on looking though my scope I saw that they were all Lesser Sand Plovers (Charadrius mongolus).
On approaching a little closer they began to stand up like this individual, so I took the opportunity to digiscope him at a distance of about 25 meters.
This shot is only slightly cropped.

Lesser Sand Plovers breed in C. and E. Asia and overwinter along the shores of E. Africa and S. Asia, where their sandy-coloured winter plumage provides good camouflage.
Their breeding plumage is more spectacular, consisting of an orange breast and black band across the forehead.

Hi Ivan,
This is a very good portrait of this bird. I know that we have some here in Quebec too and they are called in French, "Chevalier". I like the details you caught, this is not that easy as this bird is very fierce. A little light in his eye would have been nice but it is a very good picture anyway :-)

A very nice photograph with soft, warm lighting. Particularly good quality for a digiscoped shot - you must have a pretty solid tripod! Well done.

Hi Ivan

Very nice shot of this cute little bird!
Indeed there is nothing but sand around it, but it doesn't bother the composition since it appears like the bird natural habitat. The colors of its feathers resemble those of the sand so...very nice and untouched. Also, the fact that you don't have anything but sand in the shot, really concentrates all the attention on the bird. Nice work!
Excellent POV, very good sharpness and very nice light.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Ivan,
Thats a great image sharp & full of details.
The white collar here seems to run around the hind neck. The Lesser Sand has no white hindcollar.
