As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, the Red whiskered bulbul had made a small nest in the ugliest corner of my window. We were watching these Bulbuls since 3 to 4 weeks. They laid 3 eggs and they had 3 beautiful babies in about 1 week after laying the eggs. The babies were hungry every time. Whenever I or my kids go near the nest they used to pop their heads up and expecting their mom/dad to feed them. We sometimes offered some snacks and dry fruits to the parent Bulbuls. But the parents were very particular as in they never offered that kind of food for their babies. They used to eat those snacks themselves but used to get insects for the babies. These birds gave us tremendous joy, great moments for my kids and a overall great feeling.
One fine day bulbuls took the kids outside of the nest and they were flying. In 2 weeks time (after their arrival) the kids had left the nest and started flying in the unlimited skies.
Now the nest is empty and we all are having a mixed feeling that they have gone on a long voyage where they will create their own nests but will never come back to this old nest. My innocent kids still ask me about their safety! Hope they are safe and happy!
About the photos –
All these were taken by Canon SX10IS except the one of eggs. The eggs were not shot perfectly due to the location of the nest. Those are captured on my cell phone. Sorry for the quality of that snap.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day! |

Kedar, one thing comes out very strongly through your photo feature with a narrative note -- you have a humane and compassionate outlook towards wild life. The images may not be really earth shaking, but they tell a story effectively. The one in which one of the parents is feeding the chick is very nice and touching. There is something very moving in the eye of the mature bird.
That you and your family had fastened a bond with the Bulbul family has been conveyed well through your note. In the wider context, even our human abodes are like 'nests' for our children and one day, even they 'fly away' into the larger world.
Your photo feature has touched my heart. Thank you!
