[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Ilu raised herself out of the grass where she and her sisters had been lying low.
Machali, their mother, had just returned from hunting and was calling to them.
We later discovered that Machali had killed a young croc at the side of the Joghi Mahal Lake.
She had dragged the croc, which was about 2 metres long into some long grass about 1 kilometre from the lake before coming to get the cubs.
A few days later we were driving past the area where the carcass had been devoured and the few remains were giving off quite a smell.
Machali used to be very well known for her croc killing habits but since losing her two left fangs whilst fighting with a huge male croc, which she did eventually kill, she has no been known to prey on them.
Maybe this one was too young and inexperienced and she saw a golden opportunity or it could be a sign that the usual prey such as deer etc. are becoming more scarce in her area.
Whatever the reason, according to Phulchandt, the forest guard who patrols Machali's area, it was their first meal in 5 days.

Now is this not a gorgeous animal, with the most beautiful eyes? You have managed to capture this beauty displaying the details in the face clearly and visible. I enjoyed looking at this one, and reading your note. Surrounded by the green plant life, the tiger looks great. You have captured the staring look in its eyes very well. Now this is a truly magnificent capture of Machali's daughter, Roy.
Superb framing, true colours and a brilliant focus on the young tigress's face.
The surrounding greenery does wonders to highlight the subject.
