Here lies Machali.
Resting under the early afternoon Sun,in her terrirory, at Ramthambhore National Park.
To all intents and purposes Machali appeared to be asleep but, like all of her kind, she never truly sleeps.
You can see how that ear is standing erect from the side of her head.
She is constantly on full alert.
There is no real "down time" for a tiger, escpecially when she has 3 juvenile cubs to care for.
Unlike a pride of lions, our tigers are quite solitary animals and need to be constantly aware of their environment and the other creatures in it, whether they be friend or foe, predator or prey.
Machali has survived for about 12 years in her territory and has successfully raised many many beautiful cubs to adulthood.
You won't ever take her by surprise.
There was a saying that I remember from my childhood...never disturb a sleeping tiger... well that would be difficult to do, when tigers never sleep.
Well this will be my last post until May 2008, I am off to the Cameroon today.
I am going to work at the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund Sanctuary in the Mefou Forests.
So, hopefully, I will have some great new photos to share with you all when I return.
Regards
