Hi,

Quite the common site these days,on the plants,is this Shield Bug alias Stink Bug.

This names are common names applied to various insects of the Hemiptera order (the "true bugs"), in the Heteroptera suborder.The name emerges from the way their body is shaped like a Shield and also from the stink that they can emit.

Shield bugs have glands in their thorax between the first and second pair of legs which produce a foul smelling liquid. This liquid is used defensively to deter potential predators and is sometimes released when the bugs are handled carelessly.

The stink comes from aldehydes such as :
CH3-(CH2)2-CH = CH-CHO;
and is chemically similar to pheromones. The nymphs, similar to adults except smaller and without wings, also have stink glands.

The nymphs and adults have piercing mouthparts which most use to suck sap from plants, although some eat other insects. When they group in large numbers they can become significant pests.

Other species that resemble shield bugs are found in the Coreoidea superfamily.

These bugs come in all sorts of assorted colours and are mostly seen around in India in green and brown colours. The Green Stink Bugs turn brown mostly in winters and turn green with the arrival of spring.

Thanks for stopping by!!!!

First let me say the title of this one drew me in! ha haBreat shot of a rather smelly subject. :) Good DOF and nice bg.

I just came from complimenting on the same bug by another TN friend joey. What synchronicity!. Wonderful color contrast. Doesn't look as dangerous from this angle...
