| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I have seen this insect once or twice in our area. The first time I caught one at night and kept in a box to photograph the next day. Next day the poor thing was dead and the lovely golden colour was gone. I took this photograph one noon, it was cooperative for some handheld shots, but when I came back with the tripod it was gone. Sorry for the lack of DOF, just could not stop down fearing image blurr.
If any one can help with ID thankyou in advance. |

Very interesting macro Anil.
I'm not absolutely sure, but this looks something like the juvenile form of the Eucalyptus Tortoise beetle that decimates gum trees.
I may be completely wrong, but that is one idea that occurred to me.
Did the bug turn a mottled brownish colour later? They usually do,then turn a deep golden brown.
A good image to start off with anyway.
Welcome to Tn.
Steve
Hello Anil,
I do not know the correct name of the species but this is a member of beetle family Chrysomelidae, subfamily Cassidinae (sometimes known as family Cassididae). There are many species in the Oriental region :)
Best greetings,
Radomir
