[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A young tusker photographed by the Kabini river in the Nagarhole National Park, Karnataka. The area surrounding the river is perhaps the best location in South Asia for close observations of Asian elephants (and congregations of other herbivores). This is especially true in summer, when the waters recede, exposing fresh grass for the grazers when food is sparse in other parts of the ecosystem. The scene in somewhat remnicient of the grassy open plateaus of east Africa....in other words magnificent!

Nagarhole National Park, along with Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Wayanaad Wildlife Sanctuary and some smaller reserve areas form a very significant continuous elephant habitat in South India.
