Hello Friends,
This is the picture of Indian Myna, Acridotheres tristis. It's a familiar dark brown bird with bright yellow bill, legs, and bare skin around the eyes.A large white patch is very conspicuous in their wings when they fly. both sexex look alike. They are usually seen in pairs or paries about human habitations and on country side.Though they are seen on human habitations, they are highly vigilant birds.
They are omnivorous. They eat fruits, seeds, insects, worms and kitchen scraps. They are seen following the ploughs for earthworms and attend on grazing cattle for insects like grasshoppers. These birds alight on the ground and walk around searching for food.
The Mynas are very brave birds. They fight without fear with other birds and if the occassion arises, with owls, snakes and mangooses. They often invade the nests of parakeets, yellowthroated sparrows and woodpeckers and live there after driving them away.
These are very noisy birdsand make a variety of sharp calls and chatter.
The nesting season is usually April to August.Nest is usually a collection of twigs, roots, paper and rubbish ina hole in a tree, wall or ceiling. They have a penchant for aluminium foil and silvercoloured papers so that whenever they see these papers they collect it and keep it in their nests. The eggs are glossy blue in colour and usually they lay 4 to 5 of them in the nest.
These birds do a great help to farmers by controlling the grasshoppers in ripened paddy feilds. Because they are a great help in pest control the mynas have been successfully introduced in many countries like Newzealand, Africa, Mauritius etc.
The Indian Myna is a very common bird in our place. This photo was taken through the window of our bedroom when I saw it sitting on the fence. I took it with camera Nikkon D200 /lens Nikkor AF S 300 + 1.4 TC.

Shot with Aperture priority,
F Stop : 5.6
Speed : 1/80

Exposure Compensation : +3

The image has been cropped and colour sdjusted using photoshop. I also used Neat Image to reduce the noise.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your valued comments.
Regards, Smitha.

Hi Smitha

Beautiful colours on the mynah and an excellent background and POV. The overall pciture seems to have a slightly soft focus and maybe a little background noise as well .... did you have pp the light?

Hi Smitha,
A very nice capture of the common Indian Myna. Focus is spot on and very good POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Smitha,
Very nice shot of this rather scruffy individual! Looks like a juvenile - the colour of the feathers is not as bright as one usually sees. But the details in the shot are very good - I love the expression on its face!
Cheers, Uma

Hi Smitha,
I like this juvenile -looks like - Indian Myna... The eye/face is apparently a bit defocused... Maybe the image underwent some sort of noise reduction, as per BG apperance?
But anyway, I love these birds and I particularly like his/her expression and pose here! MArta
