[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Common Crow (Euploea core) is a common butterfly found in South Asia. In India it is also sometimes referred to as the Common Indian Crow, and in Australia as the Australian Crow.
The Common Crow is the most common representative of its genus Euploea. Like the Tigers (Danaus spp), the Crows are inedible and mimicked by other Indian butterflies(see Batesian mimcry).
The Common Crow (Euploea core) is a glossy black butterfly with brown underside with white marks along the outer margins of the wing. The wingspan is about 8-9 cm and the body also has prominent white spots.
The Common Crow is distasteful due to chemicals extracted from the latex of the food plants consumed in their caterpillar stage. Thus protected, they fly in a leisurely manner, gliding skillfully with wings held slightly above the horizontal. This indicates its protection due to inedibility to a predator. The inexperienced predator will try attacking it, but will learn soon enough to avoid this butterfly as the alkaloids in its body cause vomiting.

The butterfly has tough, leathery wings. When attacked it shams death and oozes liquid which causes any predators to release them. The butterfly thus has the ability to recover 'miraculously' after the predator thinks it has been killed.

Hi Pankaj,
a nice shot.
Sharp and detailed.
Sadly the stem is obstructing some of the butterfly.
Otherwise a nice shot! :)
Well done,
Joe

Hello Pankaj,
If it weren't for the obstructive stem this would have been a great capture of the Common Crow as it is superb technically and with excellent contrasting BG. So I give you credit for all the aspects except for the stem!
Many thanks for your congats on my 250th!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Pankaj,
Wonderful shot of the Common Crow with immaculate sharpness. It really stands out from the green BG and you have captured a fine pose. Excellent POV and DOF here. The composition is just superb. Kudos.
TFS.

Pankaj, Excellent take but only the green stem is coming and distracting. I know you can not avoid it but what a way you have taken this shot. Can u pls share how you took this shot. Since looking at the picture i believe you might have to bend little bit to take the shot in this POV. Ganesh

Isn't that always the case...we get all lined up and ready and realize there's a stem or branch in the way. ha ha But otherwise this is a beauty! Very clear and sharp. Great shot.

Wow...I must have missed this somehow or perhaps folks jump right in there when you post your magical photos.

Sharply bisected by focused branch adds some flavor to the picture. Contrast colors of perhaps black is not a color...it is arguable. Wonderful addition to your enormous collection!

Bob

Hi Pankaj
There is something in these photo. Square composition and big dark frame. I like these idea. Sharpnes is very good. The plant is very important for nice composition.
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hello Pankaj

A well focused and sharp image of this common crow. The colours are very good and the composition is well done. The POV and DOF are excellent.Shame about the stem blocking some of the wing, but we don't get choices in nature photography.TFS

Rob

The Common Crow looks quite different from this unusual perspective, Pankaj.

The shot is well composed and the subject looks marvellous against the green BG.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Pankaj,
105. Yes you are right. It is very annoying when somebody disturbs while taking photos. This is well captured with a totally different POV. And to me it looks beautiful.
Thanks a lot for sharing.

Pankaj, a beautiful image.

I like the blurred bg and saturation too. Great sharpness and contrast.

Buena disposición del conjunto por lo que el encuadre es muy agradable. Enfoque y profundidad perfectos tal a como nos tienes acostumbrados.
Un abrazo Pankaj.
