| I was wondering where these Blue-banded bees [Amegilla species] spend their nights to rest [and sleep?] after flying and beating their wings millions of times during the day in search of its food and helping the eco system by pollinating various flowers. So one July evening [my FZ8, new then] I was prowling around dusk looking for anything interesting to shoot. Light was low, but not my spirit - I had a new camera on hand! In a dark shady area beneath the Mexican Hat shrub, there were many of these - my favourite bee - resting on a single dry twig. I took another shot of all those together, probably a dozen, but I chose to share this one with just two at the end of the twig. They are calm and tired by dusk and so I could approach them for a macro shot. They are so restless during daytime, except for brief moments when they actually seem to rest on an angular twig to 'clean their feet and catch their breaths'. I did not know much about camera settings then and had set on the 'auto' mode, with flash on. I was satisfied with this shot as well as actually locating where and how they rest for the night. I've cropped the image and very slightly adjusted the shadows on Picasa. |
