[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Tawny Coster (Acraea terpsicore) is a small leathery winged butterfly which is common in grassland and scrub habitats. It belongs to the Nymphalidae or brush-footed butterfly family. It has a weak fluttery flight. It is avoided by most insect predators. This species and the Yellow Coster Acraea vesta are the only two Indian representatives of the predominantly African sub-family Acraeinae.
The butterfly breeds on plants of the family Loganiaceae and species of Passiflora many of which contain toxins that are sequestered by the caterpillars.

Larva
"Cylindrical, slender, with six longitudinal rows of fine branched spines; colour reddish brown with an oily gloss, much paler on the head, second and last segment; an unwholesome looking insect, doubtless protected like the butterfly."

Pupa
"Perpendicularly hung, long, slender, smooth; two lateral angles on the thorax; head quadrate; colour creamy white, with broad longitudinal bars of purplish-black spotted with orange."

This is a tawny coster Butterfly. You can see it is building Pupa on the right hand side. Fully built pupa in the middle and the catterpillar on the left. I was fortunate to find this Stages of Butterfly in Butterfly park, in Bangalore.

Hello Satish,
I like studies/pictures showing the different deveopmental stages of insects, in particular of butterflies. You captured 3 specimens of one species on one picture showing them well-focused and sharp. The characters of caterpillar and chrysalis are well presented.
Best wishes, Peter

EXCELLENT pic Satish. Very good sharpness, good BG and POV. Colours are also vivid.

Warm regards,
Kiran

Excellent capture Satish!
To see and photograph each larval stage of one butterfly is so lucky!
You present it very well with a perfect composition, pleasing POV and a good border.
Well done,
Joe
