The Common Evening Brown (Melanitis leda) is a common species of butterfly found flying at dusk. The flight of this species is erratic. They are found in South Asia and South-east Asia extending to parts of Australia.

The Evening Brown butterflies can be seen flying in the bush during evening before complete darkness.
In the day time they rest on the ground amongst dry leaves, and can hardly be seen unless disturbed. They become active in the late afternoon.

The butterflies are brown in colour and looks like a dead leaf. The underside wings are marked with the eyespots pattern, which confuse the predators not to attack the butterfly body. This butterfly has two colour forms. In winter they have less eyespots pattern on the bottom side of their wings and darker in colour.

The butterflies lay their eggs on the leaf of tall grass, which is the food of their caterpillars. They feed on different types of grass, including Kangaroo Grass Themeda australis and rice plants. They are pest to the rice farmer.

Hi Pankaj

The more I look at this picture, the more I like it. It's very impressive, either because of the shape of the butterfly as also because of its colors. I'm also impressed by the richness of details. All this beauty just for a couple of hours or days...

Kind regards

Markus

Crisp, clean well detailed, sharp...a well done portrait of the beauty.

Very pleasant composition, lovely colours and a very good point of view.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Pankaj
Beautiful ascetic in colors photo. Usualy we think of butterflis as colorful and vivid insects. Great POV. Very good sharpness. Nice simple composition
I like it very much
Krzysztof

Pankaj, this is truly an uncommon species so far as I am concerned. I have seen this butterfly for the first time and am deeply impressed with the rusty, copper sheen on the wings.
The image has been captured from an excellent angle, giving the view of its eye too. The almost uniform grey background suits the subject very well.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes.

Perfect portrait Pankaj, everything looks great in this image, you've done it again ! Thanks,

Mario

I love the title. Am starting to think that you in your area have many more of the butterflies than we here at least in my location. Pollution and weather among other things may prohibit.
A very nice picture for your Masters Collection which is becoming unequaled, perhaps outside of Sumon..who at this time appears to be very busy. But between the two of you..and of course others from time to time, the butterfly world is well documented. I can think of no other place in the internet, nor published book here so many species are found. Well done.

Hello Pankaj,
This is really a portrait: no fuss, no flowers, just this Evening Brown posing for you with its wings closed. You captured it sharply with good lighting thanks to the judicious use of flash.
Well done and best wishes,
Ivan
