This was taken during a photo-trek in a forest on the outskirts of Bangalore - Omkar hills. Cannot say it is much of a forest now.

So the predator - The ROBBER FLY! Flies in the Diptera family Asilidae are commonly known as robber flies. The family Asilidae contains about 7,100 described species worldwide. All robber flies have stout, spiny legs, a dense moustache of bristles on the face (mystax), and 3 simple eyes (ocelli) in a characteristic depression between their two large compound eyes. The mystax helps protect the head and face when the fly encounters prey bent on defense. The antennae are short, 3-segmented, sometimes with a bristle-like structure called an arista. The short, strong proboscis is used to stab and inject victims with saliva containing neurotoxic and proteolytic enzymes which paralyze and digest the insides; the fly then sucks the liquefied meal through the proboscis. Many species have long, tapering abdomens, sometimes with a sword-like ovipositor. Others are fat-bodied bumble bee mimics. Adult robber flies attack other flies, beetles, butterflies and moths, various bees, dragon and damselflies, ichneumon wasps, grasshoppers, and some spiders.

Alexie thank you very much for pointing out the error. The DOF is f8 and not f2.8 as was originally posted. Now it stands corrected.

Hello Kiran,
an admirable, impressive and sharp capture of the robberfly including its prey. Colour reproduction and light management are perfect. I enjoy to see the numerous nice details.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Kiran,

Poor little bee! It has no chance with this killing machine!
You captured an ultra sharp picture which you composed beautifully! The background helps isolating the subjects perfectly. I like the warm colors and the profile silhouette of the two insects! The picture has pretty much depth for a f/2.8 aperture. Well done! Thank you!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Hi Kiran.
I don't understand how you have got so wide DOF using f2.8. Excellent close-up with expressive scene and nice inclined composition. I also like warm and pleasant colour palette. My best wishes and compliments. Well done.
Alexei.
