Purple Heron!
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the Purple Heron(Ardea purpruea) in flight over a mini forest in the center of Bangalore called - Lal Bagh. "Lal Bagh" means "Red Garden" in Hindi, the national language of India. Lal Bagh has 3 lakes - 1 big and 2 small ones. This was taken in the smallest of the three, which is the most beautiful of the three. I was concentrating on a Little Cormorant sitting on a floating branch when this Heron flew overhead. Alerted by friends, had a fews seconds to change direction of focus and shoot. Thankfully, had set the SS to 1/1250 expecting the Cormorant to fly.
This bird has a wing span bigger than that of the average vulture with a 97 cms wing span and stands 70 cms tall. It has a bluish grey colour on the top which look purple in direct sunlight - hence the name. A very common visitor to reedy lakes and rivers around Bangalore. |

Hello Kiran,
What a nice clear action shot from this wonderful bird. The photo is sharp with enough fine details to see. Beautiful natural colours. Your POV and BG are good. Indeed is this a big bird with a wingspan about 97 cm. In Holland are they not so BIG. Interesting notes. Regards and TFS BOB
Genial captura y magníficos detalles.
Una nitidez excelente.
