A special thanks for this dedication to Loot. This is a lovely, lovely and once more lovely picture. I know that you enjoy Loot’s photos tremendously, and it does not go unnoticed. I also dedicated my first (Kingfisher for Loot) Trek Nature photo to him, because he deserves it so much. This photo really has a very high cuteness factor and I am sure you enjoyed so much photographing it. I like the water droplets on the back, the pinkish-red inside of the mouth and trunk and the small ears. I am sure he had a ball of a time, splashing around in the water. Thanks for sharing this special photo.

Dear Smitha,

Such a cute picture. You are right that the baby animals give greater opportunities for making pictures by offering unrestrained and innocent expression as much as human babies. They are playful and are not conditioned to be stereotyped like an adult. We saw one of the three Baby Elephants when we came to Kodanad last time. It pains me to know that some day they have to be obeying the orders of human beings to do chores that they do not want to. Thanks for presenting a well saturated picture showing a nice playful moment. Does it also splash water around? One thing that disappointed me about the Kodanad Elephant washing is that the place is in shadow in the morning when they bring the elephants for washing.

What a pleasant surprise and a great honour. Thanks so much for your kind gesture. I truly appreciate and cherish it.

I am sure (and from the supporting evidence in your note) that I am not the only one on TrekNature that can go "ape" about baby animals. No wonder then that ManYee's themes on "Baby Animals" is already at chapter 6 and still growing by the day.

You have captured a wonderful "snapshot" moment in a day of this baby elephant's life. Elephants and water goes together like a hand and glove and this little guy just showed its absolute delight in enjoying the water and refusing to leave. I like the composition giving the youngster ample space to move and play. The rich well saturated colours gives the shot an added appeal, the details are strong and very sharp, the exposure levels were spot on, and the DOF created a lovely OOF area in the BG to compliment the little "big guy". A fabulous shot and a great contribution to the growing number of baby animal images on the site.
